This video describes the basics of Torque Conveter operation. It was made as a training video for Allison Dealer service advisors. The beauty of this video is that it is short, to the point, good animation and narrated in "layman's" terms. Not a whole lot of technical jargon.

This is where the MAGIC in an automatic transmission takes place. It transfers the crankshaft's rotation to the input shaft of the transmission through hydraulic flow (no mechanical conection), eleviating the need for a clutch while at the same time muliplying the torque provided by the engine to the input shaft at a rate of approximately 2.5:1.
